New Demag AC 220-5 for Scholpp Kran und Transport GmbH
ZWEIBRÜCKEN –August 3, 2017 – “The fact that the Demag® AC 220-5 has the biggest boom length of all 5-axle cranes on the market – 78 meters – was definitely one of the main reasons why no other machine came close when we were making our purchase decision,” Martin Scholpp, Managing Partner at Stuttgart-based SCHOLPP Kran & Transport GmbH, points out. This comes as no surprise, given that the company will be using its new Demag crane primarily at BASF’s premises. “It’s crucial for the crane to be able to lift high and wide while minimizing the required setup work. In fact, this is especially important for the indoor projects involved in our work with BASF. That’s why we ordered the crane with a hydraulic fly jib in order to extend the main boom,” explains Heinz Schuh, who is the Scholpp Branch Manager in Ludwigshafen and who, together with Martin Scholpp and crane operators Gennadi Reske and Michael Ochs, came to Zweibrücken on July 19 in order to pick up the crane. The crane was handed over by Terex Cranes Sales Manager Michael Zieger and Senior Director of Operations Klaus Beulker.
IC-1 Plus: A real advantage
Martin Scholpp also considers the Demag AC 220-5’s innovative IC-1 Plus control system to be a strong plus factor, as its real-time calculations make it possible to respond to changing conditions at work sites with unrivalled flexibility – for instance, when there is suddenly a wall that was not there during the site inspection. Likewise, crane operator Michael Ochs only has words of praise for the IC-1 Plus system: “The indoor spaces at BASF’s facilities are usually very constrained, which means we often need to work with asymmetrical outrigger setting. The IC-1 Plus is enormously helpful in these cases.” He is particularly impressed by the automatic counterweight setup function: Once the superstructure is positioned in a defined slewing range, the counterweight placed on the carrier is automatically rigged. “Only Demag cranes have this feature,” says Ochs.
The Scholpp team also agrees on one more thing: “We’re stoked that the Demag brand has been brought back. It’s associated with very positive emotions for us and stands for Made-in-Germany quality and durability, which literally pays off thanks to an excellent resale value,” explains Martin Scholpp.
